In 2014, Studio Ghibli temporarily stopped production after Hayao Miyazaki retired. Seeing this as an opportunity to strike out on their own, a few of the animators left to found their own studio, calling it Studio Arukadia. This project is their new headquarters, an animation studio located in Tama. Studio Arukadia is a study in creating an architecture that is conducive to the well being of the animators, facilitating their creative endeavours. Through structural ‘trees’ and squeaking nightingale floors, the building becomes an internalised environment to fire the imaginations of the animators.
